Antibiotics for dental procedures may up superbug infection

Antibiotics prescribed by dentists can allow the growth of a serious and potentially deadly bacteria that causes severe diarrhoea, a study warns. Antibiotics kill bad and good bacteria in the gastrointestinal (GI) system. Wiping out the protective bacteria can allow the growth of Clostridium difficile (C diff) bacteria, leading to severe and potentially deadly diarrhoea.
