\nDefence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today assured Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti that she would look into the issue of payment of rent to the land owners of High Ground, Anantnag, in south Kashmir.<\/p>\n
Mehbooba had a one-on-one meeting with the Defence Minister in Pahalgam today, who was here to attend a meeting of the executive council of the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports, Pahalgam.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Chief Minister raised several issues pertaining to defence at the meeting. She strongly pressed for speeding up the cases of revision and payment of rent with respect to the land owners of High Ground, Anantnag, whose land is being used by the Army. She also sought intervention of the Defence Minister for the return of certain pockets of land in the state that were no longer required for operational purposes by the Army,\u201d an official spokesman said.<\/p>\n
Sitharaman regretted the delay and inconvenience caused to the land owners and said it was only during her first meeting with the Chief Minister recently that her attention was drawn towards the issue, the spokesman said.<\/p>\n
A deputation of land owners of High Ground, Anantnag, also met the Defence Minister and apprised her of their problems. She assured the deputation that she would try to fast track their case of rent payment and revision.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
