{"id":11009,"date":"2017-11-24T11:24:19","date_gmt":"2017-11-24T11:24:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/punjabnews24.com\/?p=11009"},"modified":"2017-11-24T11:24:19","modified_gmt":"2017-11-24T11:24:19","slug":"acid-reflux-drugs-not-linked-to-dementia-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/english\/acid-reflux-drugs-not-linked-to-dementia-risk\/","title":{"rendered":"Acid reflux drugs not linked to dementia risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The intake of drugs commonly used to treat acid reflux and stomach ulcers, may not be linked to dementia or Alzheimer\u2019s disease in older adults, a study has claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Drugs like Nexium, Prilosec and Prevacid \u2014 called proton pump inhibitors (PPI) are among the most prescribed drugs to treat a wide range of disorders, including gastro-esophageal reflux disease<\/p>\n<p>The findings, led by researchers from the University of Washington-Seattle, have showed that patients even with high cumulative exposure of PPIs may not develop dementia.<\/p>\n<p>For the study, published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, the researchers included 3,484 adults aged 65 and older.<\/p>\n<p>Participants did not have dementia at the beginning of the study and were followed for an average of about 7.5 years.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, almost 24 per cent of study participants developed dementia.
