{"id":12626,"date":"2017-12-10T11:58:39","date_gmt":"2017-12-10T11:58:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/punjabnews24.com\/?p=12626"},"modified":"2017-12-10T11:58:39","modified_gmt":"2017-12-10T11:58:39","slug":"iraq-pm%e2%80%89says-war-against-islamic-state-ends-we-have-defeated-the-enemy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/english\/iraq-pm%e2%80%89says-war-against-islamic-state-ends-we-have-defeated-the-enemy\/","title":{"rendered":"Iraq PM\u2009says war against Islamic State ends, we have \u2018defeated\u2019 the enemy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Saturday that Iraqi forces had driven the last remnants of Islamic State from the country, three years after the militant group captured about a third of Iraq\u2019s territory.<\/p>\n<p>The Iraqi forces recaptured the last areas still under IS control along the border with Syria, state television quoted Abadi as telling an Arab media conference in Baghdad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommander-in-Chief HaiderAlAbadi announces that Iraq\u2019s armed forces have secured the western desert &amp; the entire Iraq Syria border, says this marks the end of the war against Daesh terrorists who have been completely defeated and evicted from Iraq,\u201d the federal government\u2019s official account tweeted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur forces are in complete control of the Iraqi-Syrian border and I therefore announce the end of the war against Daesh,\u201d Abadi told a conference in Baghdad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur enemy wanted to kill our civilisation, but we have won through our unity and our determination. We have triumphed in little time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate tweet later, Abadi said: \u201cOur heroic armed forces have now secured the entire length of the Iraq-Syria border. We defeated Daesh through our unity and sacrifice for the nation. (AFP Photo)<\/p>\n<p>The US-led coalition that has been supporting Iraqi force against Islamic State tweeted its congratulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe coalition congratulates the people of Iraq on their significant victory against. We stand by them as they set the conditions for a secure and prosperous #futureiraq,\u201d said the tweet. Daesh is the Arabic name for Islamic State.<\/p>\n<p>Last month Iraqi forces captured Rawa, the last remaining town under Islamic State control, near the Syrian border.<\/p>\n<p>Mosul, the group\u2019s de facto capital in Iraq, fell in July after a gruelling nine-month campaign backed by a US-led coalition that saw much of the northern Iraqi city destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>Islamic State\u2019s Syrian capital Raqqa also fell to a US-backed Kurdish-led coalition in September.<\/p>\n<p>The forces fighting Islamic State in both countries now expect a new phase of guerrilla warfare, a tactic the militants have already shown themselves capable of.<\/p>\n<p>Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who in 2014 had declared in Mosul the founding of a new Islamic caliphate, released an audio recording on Sept. 28 that indicated he was alive, after several reports he had been killed.
