While humour can be for amusement and entertainment, satire has a deeper purpose of leaving a lasting impact on the receiver and generating compassion\u201d said Dr. Harish Naval as he spoke on the subject of \u2018Satire Writing\u2019 during the workshop on Satire Writing at Department of Hindi, Panjab University. The two day workshop began today with Dr. Harish Naval as the chief guest and resource person.<\/p>\n<p>        Dr. Naval who has 41 years of teaching experience, over 16 books and several awards to his acclaim today spoke at length about \u2018Satire\u2019 as a form of writing and the purposes it needs to fulfill. He specifically explained the difference between the two forms of \u2018humour\u2019 and \u2018satire\u2019 as one often ends up confusing the two. Dr Naval explained that \u2018Satire\u2019 is not merely for entertainment or amusement and when used effectively it can help in expressing emotions of anger, protest and the need to bring about a change. \u201c Satire needs to be attempted in a way where it can bring sensitivity towards the event or subject on which it is attempted\u201d he explained. The first day of the workshop brought an opportunity for the participants to understand the purpose and form of Satire Writing. The workshop was also attended by Poet and artist Dr. Sneh Sudha Naval, Professor Baijnath Prasad ( Dept. of Hindi), Professor Satyapal Sehgal ( Dept. of Hindi) , Dr. Ashok Kumar ( Dept of Hindi) and Dr. Rajesh Sabharwal ( Dept. of English).
