Pakistan on Saturday said authorities were processing the visa applications of the wife and mother of Kulbhushan Jadhav, a former Indian Navy officer sentenced to death by a military court for alleged involvement in espionage and subversive activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cVisa applications of mother and wife of Commander Jadhav received for their visit on humanitarian grounds. Being processed,\u201d Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Faisal tweeted.<\/p>\n
Faisal did not give other details. The wife and mother of Jadhav, who has not been granted consular access since he was detained by the Pakistani military in March last year, are expected to meet him on December 25.<\/p>\n
Last month, Pakistan had offered to facilitate a meeting between Jadhav and his wife. India responded by saying that Jadhav\u2019s mother and an Indian diplomat should also be allowed to meet him. This was subsequently accepted by Islamabad.<\/p>\n
Pakistan has also said \u201crequisite security\u201d will be provided to Jadhav\u2019s mother and wife during their visit.<\/p>\n
This is the first time Jadhav will meet someone from the Indian side since the Pakistani military announced he had been arrested in Balochistan on March 3, 2016. Pakistan has spurned more than 30 Indian requests for consular access.<\/p>\n
The external affairs ministry has described the Pakistani move as a \u201cpositive development and good news\u201d.<\/p>\n
After India approached the International Court of Justice, Jadhav\u2019s execution was stayed by The Hague-based court till it gives its final ruling in the matter. India has dismissed the charges levelled against Jadhav by Pakistan and said he was kidnapped from the Iranian port of Chabahar, where he was running a business.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
