Good Governance Day is being observed today to mark the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have offered birthday greetings to former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Behari Vajpayee.<\/p>\n
On this occassion Madhya Pradesh government will provide pulses at concessional rate in tribal areas. The State government will sell pulses at the rate of Rs 10 per kg.<\/p>\n
In Uttar Pradesh, the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will bring cheers to 93 prisoners as the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to set them free.<\/p>\n
In 2014 when Narendra Modi Government came to power, then it took two important decisions. One was to confer Bharat Ratna on former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Late Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya and to celebrate the birthday of Vajpayeeji as Good Governance Day.<\/p>\n
Born on December 25, 1924, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh Vajpayee has a long parliamentary experience spanning over four decades. He was first elected to parliament in 1957 and was an active member of the parliament till 2004, when he was relected from Lucknow for a record 5th time. He was elected to the 5th, 6th and 7th Lok Sabha and again to the 10th, 11th 12th and 13th Lok Sabha and to Rajya Sabha in 1962 and 1986. He is the only parliamentarian elected from four different States at different times – UP, Gujarat, MP and Delhi.<\/p>\n
The vagaries of alliance politics didn’t , however, stop him from undertaking a calculated decision of going ahead with the Pokhran Nuclear tests. Undeterred by the threat of sanctions or political marginalisation in the world fora, Mr Vajpayee’s conviction stood him good as India registered its Nuclear prowess and also underlined its ability to withstand sanctions, economic or otherwise. The same belief was apparent when he chose to address UN General assembly in Hindi.<\/p>\n
Known for his political acumen,he proved that he had a deep sense of economic foresight when he started his ambitious Golden Quadrilateral project. He is credited with doing all the groundwork that pitch forked Indian economy with a sustained growth year after year.<\/p>\n
Few Indian Prime Ministers have left such a historic legacy. His presence in Parliament during debates meant that the reply or the intervention will have all the elements of his trademark style and demeanor. He was opposition leader for 40 long years, but that length of time didn’t leave any regrets or frustration. Rather it enriched him with friends and admirers spanning across the political spectrum. Even the most vocal BJP opponents deployed carefully drafted words bordering on silent admiration when they had to give opinion on him.<\/p>\n
Atal Behari Vajpayee, a life time spent in politics, a life dedicated to nation, a life journey characterised by caravan of admiration and friendship.<\/p>\n
On his birthday, the Centre as well as the state governments are celebrating Good Governance Day. Several states will distribute gas connections under Ujjwala Yojana on this occasion; while at several places, awareness programmes with regard to digital governance will be held. The purpose for observing this day is:<\/p>\n
1. Building transparent and responsible administration<\/p>\n
2. Ensuring the welfare of Aam Admi<\/p>\n
3. Devising good and effective policies for good governance<\/p>\n
4. To give a corruption free administration to the people.<\/p>\n
A glimpse of this good governance is seen in the Digital India Campaign.By linking government policies to the digital platform and Aadhar , corruption is coming to an end, while, Ujjwala, Sabko Ghar, Indradhanush, Deendayal Vidyutikaran Yojana and several other such programmes seek to address the concerns of the common man.<\/p>\n
As Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee introduced the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, providing connectivity to people in remote areas. He also launched the Antyodaya Anna scheme to provide cheaper subsidised foograins to the poor. These policies were in line with the life philosophy of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his dedication to the nation.
