Pakistan Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif on Thursday alleged that US President Donald Trump\u2019s recent remarks against his country showed that he was \u201ctalking in the language of India\u201d.<\/p>\n
Briefing the Parliamentary Committee on National Security about tension between Pakistan and the US following Trump\u2019s remarks, Asif said the US is making Islamabad a scapegoat for its failure in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
Trump had accused Pakistan of giving nothing to the US but \u201clies and deceit\u201d in return for $33 billion aid.<\/p>\n
Sources privy to the discussion in the meeting said Asif told lawmakers, \u201cTrump was speaking in the language of India.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe statements from the US leaders are contrary to the facts,\u201d Asif said.<\/p>\n
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, who heads the body, told the media after the meeting that there should be \u201cbalanced response\u201d to the statements from the US.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe country\u2019s dignity should be maintained, while engaging with the US,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said the committee has decided to reconvene next week for a briefing by security agencies.<\/p>\n
The closed-door meeting came at the heels of a high-level National Security Committee meet and the cabinet meeting earlier this week.<\/p>\n
Defence Minister Khurram Dastagir was also present in the meeting.<\/p>\n
Dastagir said when US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Defence Secretary James Mattis visited Pakistan, they presented their stance in accordance with diplomatic norms and the talks were not threatening and insulting .<\/p>\n
\u201c(But) this was present in Trump\u2019s tweet and before that when US Vice President Mike Pence made the \u2018put Pakistan on notice\u2019 statement from Afghanistan,\u201d the defence minister said, referring to the threatening tone of the US leaders.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to have a holistic review of the entire situation. We are conducting a complete analysis and coolly formulating our response,\u201d he said, adding that there should not be any doubts when it comes to the defence of Pakistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
