{"id":18022,"date":"2018-01-10T12:08:05","date_gmt":"2018-01-10T12:08:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/punjabnews24.com\/?p=18022"},"modified":"2018-01-10T12:08:05","modified_gmt":"2018-01-10T12:08:05","slug":"sri-lankan-president-looks-to-sc-on-decision-on-six-year-term","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/english\/sri-lankan-president-looks-to-sc-on-decision-on-six-year-term\/","title":{"rendered":"Sri Lankan President looks to SC on decision on six-year term"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has sought Supreme Court opinion on whether he can stay in office for six years till 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The matter has been listed on Thursday for hearing.<\/p>\n<p>This comes amidst claims of Sirisena&#8217;s term ending in 2020 as the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, brought after his election in 2015, reduced President\u2019s office to five years from six.<\/p>\n<p>In his communication to the Chief Justice, President Sirisena has asked whether in terms of Provisions of the Constitution, he has any impediment to continue in office for a period of 6 years from 9 January 2015, the date on which the result of his election was declared.<\/p>\n<p>He has asked for a response to be submitted to him on or before January 14.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has sought Supreme Court opinion on whether he can stay in office for six years till 2021.
