\nElaborate discussions were held on fruit crops such as citrus, guava, grapes, litchi, ber, mango, sapota, pear, amla, banana, pomegranate, jamun, loquat, peach and stone fruits during the two-day \u201cResearch and Extension Specialists\u2019 Workshop for Fruits, Mushroom, Agro-forestry along with Post-Harvest Management, Farm Power and Machinery, Food Technology and Agricultural Economics,\u201d which concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. Experts also deliberated on protection technologies for fruit crops and various aspects of mushroom cultivation, agro-forestry, farm mechanization, agro-processing and agricultural economics. The workshop was organized by the Directorate of Extension Education, PAU.<\/p>\n
Chairing the concluding session, Dr D.S. Bhatti, Additional Director of Extension Education, said there was a need to cut expenses and opt for cost-effective agriculture. He urged the extension functionaries to promote kitchen gardening, value addition and custom hiring of farm machinery among farmers. \u201cCultivating horticultural crops and going for their value addition can give dual benefit of nutritional as well as financial security,\u201d he observed.<\/p>\n
The session was coordinated by Dr T.S. Riar, Professor of Extension Education, PAU. The extension functionaries visited the experimental areas of horticulture, mushroom, and soil and water engineering. In addition, they visited Food Industry Business Incubation Centre at PAU where they were apprised of the facilities for food processing.
\nThe officers from the State Department of Horticulture, district extension specialists, scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Farm Advisory Service Centres, and University faculty attended the workshop.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
