\nFormer India captain Kapil Dev wants Hardik Pandya to \u201cwork harder on his batting\u201d as that is his primary skill as an all-rounder. Pandya, after his 93 in the first Test against South Africa in Cape Town, failed to get a single half-century across formats during the long tour.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe (Pandya) has shown the glimpse. He has the talent and ability. Comparing him with others will put more pressure on him. I would like to see him express himself, enjoy himself,\u201d said Kapil.<\/p>\n
For Kapil, an all-rounder should be really strong in one of the two skill sets and Pandya for him is primarily a batting all-rounder. \u201cHe has to work a little harder on his batting because he is a batting all-rounder. If he can perform a little more with the bat, bowling will come easy to him,\u201d said the former all-rounder.<\/p>\n
Kapil said Pandya was still very young and everyone was expecting too much from him. \u201cWe have started expecting too much from him a little too soon, but I think he has the ability and is one of the finest athletes in the team,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Talking about next year\u2019s World Cup, Kapil said India would require both current skipper Virat Kohli\u2019s aggression and his predecessor MS Dhoni\u2019s calmness to lift the trophy. \u201cIf you can have the combination, there is nothing wrong because you need to have somebody who is calm and quiet, and also someone who\u2019s very aggressive,\u201d said Kapil.<\/p>\n
Kapil said India played terrific cricket to bounce back in the limited-overs series after a disappointing outing in the first two Tests in South Africa. \u201cThey (India) could have done better in the Test series but they ended really well. They won hands down in the shorter formats, which we never did in the past. It was an outstanding display.
