{"id":24775,"date":"2018-03-14T11:43:28","date_gmt":"2018-03-14T11:43:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/punjabnews24.com\/?p=24775"},"modified":"2018-03-14T11:43:28","modified_gmt":"2018-03-14T11:43:28","slug":"pnb-fraud-charge-of-criminal-breach-of-trust-added-to-fir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/english\/pnb-fraud-charge-of-criminal-breach-of-trust-added-to-fir\/","title":{"rendered":"PNB fraud: Charge of criminal breach of trust added to FIR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The CBI told a Mumbai court on Tuesday that it has added the charge of \u2018criminal breach of trust\u2019 to the case related to diamond trader Mehul Choksi\u2019s firms in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case.<\/p>\n<p>The maximum punishment for the offence under section 409 of the IPC (criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent) is life imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>Among others, the agency has arrested Gokulnath Shetty, the then deputy manager (now retired) of PNB, in connection with issuance of fraudulent letters of undertaking (LoUs) to Choksi-owned firms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe acts of Shetty prima facie disclose commission of offence punishable under section 409 IPC along with other offences already alleged in the FIR,\u201d read the CBI\u2019s submission before the special court.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier the agency had pressed the charge of cheating under the IPC and relevant charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act.<\/p>\n<p>The CBI has alleged that firms controlled by diamond traders Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi obtained fraudulent LoUs and letters of credit (LCs) worth USD 2 billion (Rs 12,636 crore) from PNB in connivance with bank officials.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The CBI told a Mumbai court on Tuesday that it has added the charge of \u2018criminal breach of trust\u2019 to the case related to diamond trader Mehul Choksi\u2019s firms in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case.
