\nAmid nationwide outrage over the rape and murder of a minor girl in Rasana village of Kathua district, Governor NN Vohra on Tuesday asked the state government for a fast-track trial in the case by ensuring day-to-day proceedings.<\/p>\n
The Governor conveyed this to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who called on him at Raj Bhawan here on Tuesday. During the course of their 30-minute discussions, the Governor urged the state government not to allow \u201clumpen elements\u201d to disturb law and order under any circumstances.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmong the other matters, the Governor stressed the importance of ensuring that the prosecution of the Kathua rape and murder case proceeded on a day-to-day basis and lumpen elements must not be allowed to disturb law and order under any circumstances,\u201d a Raj Bhawan spokesperson said in a statement issued here.<\/p>\n
On Monday, the Governor had accepted the resignation letters of two BJP ministers Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga who were asked by the party high command to put in their papers on Friday for their \u201cindiscretion\u201d in the use of language at a rally in Kathua on March 1.<\/p>\n
The ministers had been sent to Kathua to defuse the situation as agitated community members under the Hindu Ekta Manch were demanding a CBI probe into the case.<\/p>\n
The Governor accepted the resignations on the recommendations of the Chief Minister.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, Mehbooba also apprised the Governor about her recent meetings and discussions in Delhi and subsequent developments in the state.<\/p>\n
On April 9, the Chief Minister had called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi.<\/p>\n
During her meeting with Modi, Mehbooba apprised him about the overall situation in J&K, including the security scenario in the Kashmir valley. She had stressed on finding ways and means to end the cycle of violence in the state by addressing the element of alienation among youth.<\/p>\n
Mehbooba had also reiterated her demand for peaceful engagement with all stakeholders and sought more frequent meetings at the highest levels between India and Pakistan.<\/p>\n
The Chief Minister, during her meeting with Sitharaman, had underscored the need for adopting a humane approach while dealing with the situation and avoiding collateral damage during security operations.<\/p>\n
The Governor also discussed with the Chief Minister issues relating to the long-pending elections to the urban local bodies and panchayats and reiterated the need for strict accountability being enforced in the functioning of the entire administrative apparatus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
