\nA meeting of the 14 Associations of unaided Educational Institutions, representing more than 1000 unaided colleges of Punjab, held under the banner of Joint Action Committee (JAC), Punjab. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of JAC Sh. Ashwani Sekhri. The representatives of the associations discussed the concerns of the institutes w.r.t. the implementation of revised Post Matric Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) for SC w.e.f. April 2018.<\/p>\n
JAC spokesperson Dr. Anshu Kataria in his statement said that around Rs. 1600 crores under PMS of unaided colleges is pending towards the government since long. Under the revised policy, the Punjab Government has to pay around 550 crores of the scheme for the year 2017-18. The consensus among the colleges is built up for not to admit the SC students without fee for academic session 2018-19. The colleges may also debar the existing students from attending classes in next session until and unless the pending amount is disbursed by the state Government. The JAC may consider the implementation of these decisions, if the fee of SC students is not disbursed up to May end. The unaided institutes are very much concerned that the future of lacs of SC students may hang in balance with this decision, but they are also helpless in current situation.<\/p>\n
Sh. Ashwani Sekhri, Chairman of JAC said that the unaided institutes have come up with an investment of thousands of crores and providing employment to nearly 2 Lac persons. The lackluster approach of the Government towards unaided colleges clearly shows that the Government has little or no care about this important sector, which is delivering the basic responsibility of the government to provide education. Hence the unaided colleges of Punjab are facing closure due to shortage of funds. More than 10 Polytechnic Colleges of the state will not admit students for 2018-19 session and applied for NOC to close the colleges.<\/p>\n
Dr. Kataria further said that the government has disbursed around 113.50 crores of the central grant after 10 months to the government colleges and merely 1.25 crore to unaided colleges. Non-submission of UC to union Govt. further delayed the disbursement of 1000 crores from the union government. The JAC has approached Hon\u2019ble Finance Minister for a meeting with him and officials of his department to submit their point of view on the scheme, but he has postponed the meeting many times. The JAC urged the Chief Minister to take a call on this sensitive issue and convene a meeting of concerned ministers and officials along with Joint Action Committee Members to sort out this vexed issue of unaided colleges of Punjab.<\/p>\n
Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Mr. Jagjeet Singh, Mr. Charanjeet Singh Walia, Mr. Nirmal Singh, Mr. S. S. Chattha, Mr. R. S.
