\nGovernor NN Vohra inaugurated a one-day conference on \u201cFood Processing and Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana\u201d on the Shalimar Campus of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir, on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The conference was organised by the Directorate of Extension SKUAST-K, Ministry of Food Processing Industry, Government of India, and the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), New Delhi.<\/p>\n
The Governor observed that there was inadequate awareness about this pan-India programme which was a flagship scheme launched by the Centre with the objective of supplementing agriculture, modernising food processing and decreasing agricultural waste.<\/p>\n
The Governor said currently a high percentage of agricultural produce of the country goes waste because of the lack of processing facilities and modern preservation techniques. \u201cIf we endeavour to minimise this waste, producers\u2019 surplus will increase substantially,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The Governor urged vice chancellors of farm universities and other entities involved in the implementation of this yojana to formulate sector-wise schemes under the ambit of this flagship programme so as to double the income of the farmers by 2022-23, promote farmers\u2019 welfare and reduce agrarian distress.<\/p>\n
Prof Nazeer Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-K; Parvez Ahmed, Chairman and CEO, J&K Bank Ltd; KB Subramanian, Director, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, GoI; DS Rawat, Secretary General, ASSOCHAM; and Javid Ahmad Tenga, president, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry, presented their views on the opportunities available to farmers to become entrepreneurs by taking full advantage of benefits available under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
