\nUS President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he is still looking at a summit on June 12 in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and things are moving \u201cvery nicely\u201d towards the meeting.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re looking at June 12 in Singapore. That hasn\u2019t changed. It\u2019s moving along pretty well, so we\u2019ll see what happens,\u201d Trump told reporters at the White House during a meeting with a US prisoner freed by Venezuela.<\/p>\n
His remarks came after the surprise meeting between Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in in the demilitarised zone on Saturday during which the two leaders discussed the summit meeting with the US.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just want to mention we\u2019re doing very well in terms of the summit with North Korea. Looks like it\u2019s going along very well,\u201d said the US President in response to questions from reporters.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs you know there are meetings going on as we speak in a certain location which I won\u2019t name. Like the location, it\u2019s not so far away from here. And I think there\u2019s a lot of good will. I think people want to see if we can get the meeting and get something done,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we got that done and if we can be successful in the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula, it would be a great thing for North Korea,\u201d Trump added. \u201cIt would be a great thing for South Korea, be great for Japan and great for the world \u2014 great for the United States, great for China.\u201d Trump said a lot of people are working on it. \u201cIt\u2019s moving along very nicely,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
When asked about the talks between Moon and Kim, the president replied, \u201cthe talks have gone very well.\u201d On Thursday, Trump abruptly cancelled the proposed summit meeting with the North Korean leader on June 12 in Singapore and blamed Pyongyang\u2019s \u201ctremendous anger\u201d and \u201copen hostility\u201d for his dramatic decision.<\/p>\n
He had described the cancellation of the summit as \u201ca tremendous setback\u201d for North Korea and warned that the US military is ready to act should Pyongyang take any \u201cfoolish and reckless\u201d action.<\/p>\n
But within 24 hours he said the meeting could still go ahead after productive talks were held with North Korean officials.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
