\nGovernor NN Vohra and First Lady Usha Vohra visited the mega exhibition of Islamic art objects and rare Quranic manuscripts being showcased at the Tourist Reception Centre, Srinagar.<\/p>\n
Naeem Akhtar, Minister for Culture, was present on the occasion.<\/p>\n
The five-day exhibition from June 7 to 11 has been organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages in collaboration with the Directorate of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Directorate of Tourism, Directorate of Libraries, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Kashmir Chapter, Shasvat Art Gallery, Peerzada Collection and Hakim Collection.<\/p>\n
A large number of rare documents representing various artistic forms of Quranic calligraphy and vellum panels have been displayed at the exhibition.<\/p>\n
The Governor and First Lady evinced keen interest in the rare documents and artefacts on display and appreciated the exhibits for their artistic quality and high historical value. The Governor observed that such exhibitions enabled the people at large to become aware of their rich cultural heritage.<\/p>\n
Aziz Hajini, Secretary, J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages; Muneer-ul-Islam, Director, Archives, Archaeology and Museums; Saleem Beg, convener, INTACH, were among those present on the occasion.<\/p>\n
The exhibition has on display some rare Quranic manuscripts, the holy text, translations and commentary, some of which have never been displayed before. The exhibition is being held at this scale for the first time since 1981 when it was organised at the Tourist Reception Centre.<\/p>\n
