Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar has said she had her first panic attack when she was 27 and added that she \u201cchose to get help\u201d instead of simply sitting around. In an elaborate post she wrote of Humans of Bombay, Zoya also talked about her close bond with brother Farhan Akhtar. Humans of Bombay is a group that often features individual stories of struggles and success.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy biggest challenge was when I had my first panic attack at 27. It\u2019s not something you can ignore, you can\u2019t sit around and get sucked into a rabbit hole. I chose to get help immediately. It took a while to work things out but I am fine now. You realize you have to become aware of your inner monologue. The things you say to yourself. This raised my consciousness so it was vital to my growth, I would say,\u201d Zoya has revealed.<\/p>\n
Writing for the Facebook page of Humans of Bombay, Zoya opened up about her family and work: \u201cPieces of my life, no matter how scattered, are being stitched together and reflect in my work. The biggest piece is my family — from watching films like The Godfather on our dining room wall, to having a great relationship with my sibling. Or going on weekend trips with our cousins to the beach and eating all day\u2026 it\u2019s been a crazy childhood; a \u2018bohemian one.\u2019<\/p>\n
Zoya made her directorial debut with Luck By Chance, which starred brother Farhan in the lead and got her the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director. Hrithik Roshan-Katrina Kaif-starrer Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was her next film, that again starred Farhan and was well received by critics. The brother sister duo have always worked together, in all her films.<\/p>\n
Further elaborating on her upbringing, Zoya wrote, \u201cMy love for the arts started at home — most of the people we met were artists- actors, directors, musicians, writers. The conversations my parents had about films were obviously more in depth than the average audience. Screenplay, performances, lighting, shot-taking. And before you know my brother and me were looking at films slightly differently.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Dil Dhadakne Do director also talked about a film that moves her: \u201cA work that really moved me was Starry Nights by Van Gogh in MoMA, New York — I had chills. I had a physical reaction to the painting — my heart just flew out of my chest\u2026 And I started crying.
