\nThe Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) inked a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with Kalsi Agro Works, Sangrur, for the commercialization of PAU Cutter-cum-Spreader technology. Dr Navtej Singh Bains, Director of Research, PAU, and Pardeep Singh Kalsi of Kalsi Agro Works, Sangrur, signed the MoA in the presence of PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon.<\/p>\n
Dr Dhillon congratulated the proprietors for sharing responsibility of environment friendly straw management.<\/p>\n
Dr Bains informed that the PAU Cutter-cum-Spreader, which was now available for Rs 40,000, is low cost and practically applicable technology for cutting, chopping, and uniform spreading of paddy straw in combine harvested paddy fields. The machine can be operated with 35 to 40 HP tractors with a capacity of 2 acres per hour, he added.<\/p>\n
Dr S.S. Chahal, Director of Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, said the University has signed 143 MoAs with different firms and individuals across the nation till date for the commercialization of various products, technologies etc. This is the University\u2019s fourth MoA for commercialization of PAU Cutter-cum-Spreader technology, he said.<\/p>\n
Dr Ashok Kumar, Additional Director of Research (Farm Mechanization and Bio-energy), said the machine will facilitate the operations of other in-situ straw management machinery like PAU Happy Seeder, Mould Board Plough, etc., which will ultimately halt paddy straw burning and help farmers to enhance soil productivity with in-situ paddy straw management.<\/p>\n
Dr Manjeet Singh, Head, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, said, \u201cTo facilitate the working of Happy Seeder, the Straw Cutter-cum-Spreader was developed by modifying the existing stubble shaver by improving its cutting system.
