\nPakistan’s former dictator Pervez Musharraf was today declared a fugitive by an anti-terrorism court, which ordered seizure of his property and sentenced two senior police officers to 17 years in jail in the Benazir Bhutto murder case, nearly 10 years after her assassination.<\/p>\n
Bhutto, the Pakistan People\u2019s Party chief and a two-time Prime Minister, was killed along with more than 20 persons in a gun and bomb attack in Rawalpindi\u2019s Liaquat Bagh during an election rally on December 27, 2007. She was 54.<\/p>\n
The case was registered soon after her assassination.The trial, that went through many ups and down, concluded in Rawalpindi yesterday. Judge Asghar Khan announced the verdict, declaring Musharraf a proclaimed offender and ordering seizure of his property.<\/p>\n
Musharraf, 74, has been living in Dubai since last year when he was allowed to leave Pakistan on the pretext of medical treatment. The judge sentenced former Rawalpindi CPO Saud Aziz and former<\/p>\n
Rawal town SP Khurram Shahzad \u2014 the two suspects out on bail \u2014 to 17 years in prison and<\/p>\n
fined them Rs 5 lakh each. They were present in the court today.<\/p>\n
Five Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) suspects have been acquitted for lack of evidence. The suspects were arrested soon after the assassination. They had denied the charges all along.<\/p>\n
The trial of five suspects started in 2008, while Musharraf, Aziz and Shahezad were implicated in 2009 after a fresh probe by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).<\/p>\n
\u201cTen years later and we still await justice. Abettors punished but those truly guilty of my mother\u2019s murder roam free,\u201d Bhutto\u2019s daughter Aseefa Bhutto Zardari tweeted. \u201cThere will be no justice till Musharraf answers for his crimes,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
