\nUS President Donald Trump has said he will talk about Syria, Ukraine, elections and other global issues when he meets his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on July 16.<\/p>\n
Trump and Putin will meet in the Finnish capital to mend the bilateral relations and discuss a range of national security issues, the White House and the Kremlin announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to be talking about Ukraine, we\u2019re going to be talking about Syria, we\u2019re going to be talking about elections. We don\u2019t want anybody tampering with elections. We\u2019ll be talking about world events,\u201d Trump said yesterday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll be talking about peace. We may even talk about saving millions of dollars on weapons…we are building a force like nobody\u2019s ever seen before,\u201d he told reporters when asked about his meeting with Putin next month.<\/p>\n
This would be Trump\u2019s first summit with Putin, even though the leaders have met twice in the last one and half year.<\/p>\n
The announcement of the meeting had followed after President Putin met US National Security Adviser John Bolton, who was in Moscow this week to lay the groundwork for the summit.<\/p>\n
\u201cPerhaps the world can deescalate with China, Russia…may be the world can somewhat deescalate. That would not be a bad thing. But I think having a relationship with China, Russia…it\u2019s a good thing,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n
Asked about lifting of sanctions on Russia, Trump appeared to be non-committal.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll see what Russia does. We\u2019re going to be talking to Russia about a lot of things. We\u2019re going to be talking to them about Syria,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Responding to a question on NATO, Trump reiterated that other countries had to spend more.<\/p>\n
\u201cNATO is very interesting, we\u2019ll see what happens there. Germany has to spend more money, Spain, France, it\u2019s not fair what they\u2019ve done to the United States,\u201d he said, adding that the US is paying much more disproportionately to anyone else.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
