India has condemned as \u201cheinous and cowardly\u201d the terrorist attack on a convoy of Sikhs in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
A suicide bomber on Sunday targeted a convoy of minority Sikh community on their way to meet Afghanistan\u2019s President in the eastern city of Jalalabad, killing at least 19 people.<\/p>\n
Inamullah Miakhail, spokesman for the provincial hospital in Nangarhar, said that 17 out of 19 dead in the attack are from the minority Sikh and Hindu community.<\/p>\n
Miakhail added that at least ten of the 20 injured were also from the same minority community and are undergoing treatment at a Jalalabad hospital.<\/p>\n
Nangarhar\u2019s police chief, said that the attacker targeted the group on its way to the governor\u2019s compound. They had planned to meet with President Ashraf Ghani, who was visiting the region on Sunday.<\/p>\n
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Taliban and an Islamic State affiliate are active in the province.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly condemned the terror attacks in Afghanistan. 19 people were killed in the attack, 17 of whom are from the minority Sikh and Hindu community.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister tweeted: They are an attack on Afghanistan\u2019s multicultural fabric. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray that the injured recover soon. India stands ready to assist the Afghanistan government in this sad hour.<\/p>\n
