At least 46 people were killed and close to a dozen injured when a bus fell into a deep gorge in Pauri district of Uttarakhand on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred near Gwen village, close to Dhumakot in the district, when the private bus, carrying 58 passengers, on its way to Ramnagar, fell into a 200-metre deep gorge.<\/p>\n
Rescue operations were carried out by police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel. All the bodies have been recovered and the injured rescued from the mangled remains of the bus. Governor K K Paul and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident.<\/p>\n
The chief minister ordered a magisterial probe into the incident, besides announcing a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 for the injured. He also announced that the treatment of injured will be taken care of by the government.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the death people in the tragic incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cExtremely saddened by the bus accident in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families,\u201d the Prime Minister\u2019s Office said in a tweet.<\/p>\n
\u201cI pray the injured recover at the earliest.
