Consultative Status to the United Nations Economic and Social Council is the highest status granted by the United Nations to non-governmental organizations, thereby allowing them to participate in the work of the United Nations. The Special Consultative Status confers a host of privileges and facilities on an NGO, which are similar to those conferred to a member country by the UN.<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN-ECOSOC) granted the prestigious recognition to Patiala Foundation after concurrence by representatives of all the member countries. So far, 3974 NGOs across the globe have got this recognition, this year Patiala Foundation was added to the list. It is an NGO from Punjab,India to get Special Consultative Status from the UN. The UN Headquarters informed the decision to the Patiala Foundation authorities on July 27,2018.<\/p>\n<p>The Recognition Process:<br \/>\nThe visionary founder of Patiala Foundation Ravee S Ahluwalia initiated the process for this prestigious recognition in 2013 and an application was submitted in the same year. The UN silently but thoroughly evaluated the activities, functioning and achievements of the organisation during the period from 2013 to 2016. The observation phase was followed by detailed discussion on various activities of Patiala Foundation. All the Committees of the UN were satisfied with the functioning of the NGO. Different Committees recommended to the UN for grant of special status to the organisation between 2016 and 2018. In 2018, in a session of the Heads of the Member States of the UN, the proposal for grant of special status to Patiala Foundation received the final approval. Coordination and management meeting of 24 July 2018 adopted the recommendation of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to grant Special consultative status to Patiala Foundation. It may be mentioned here that thousands of NGOs from across the world apply for this coveted status. Patiala Foundation is the NGO from India to receive this recognition from among several that had applied.<\/p>\n<p>Privileges to Patiala Foundation<\/p>\n<p>With this special status, Patiala Foundation will have following special privileges:<\/p>\n<p>Providing expert information to UN-ECOSOC<\/p>\n<p>Receiving information about provisional agenda of the UN-ECOSOC<\/p>\n<p>Engage with the Secretary General of UN and place items of special interest in the provisional agenda of the UN-ECOSOC<\/p>\n<p>Having access to the United Nations and attendance at its meetings, designate official representative to the United nations Headquarters in New York, United Nation\u2019s offices in Geneva and Vienna and participate in various events, conferences and activities of the United Nations<\/p>\n<p>Sitting as observer at public meetings of UN-ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, General Assembly of UN, Human Rights Council and various other United Nations intergovernmental decision-making bodies<\/p>\n<p>Submitting written statements in areas of its competence and relevant to the work of UN-ECOSOC<\/p>\n<p>Making oral presentations at UN-ECOSOC<\/p>\n<p>Providing consultations to UN-ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies<\/p>\n<p>Using facilities of United Nations<\/p>\n<p>Patiala Foundation which began its operations in 2009 has been actively working in the field of Livelihood, Culture, Tourism and Road Safety. It has been actively engaged in fulfilling the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) of the UN.
