\nHome Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said the NRC published on Monday was only a draft and those whose names did not figure in it would get ample opportunity to present their case for inclusion in the final document.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe process being followed to prepare the NRC is transparent. It is being done under the supervision of the SC,\u201d Singh said in the Rajya Sabha, adding that some persons with vested interest were trying to create communal disharmony. \u201cIt is disappointing that some persons holding important positions made provocative and inflammatory statements,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Names of those hailing from any state of the country with cut-off date March 24, 1971, will be included in the final document. Residents of other states residing in Assam can also produce their \u201ccertificate of residence\u201d before 1971, or that of their ancestors and prove their linkage.<\/p>\n
Singh said the present exercise to update the NRC flows from the 1985-Assam Accord signed during the tenure of Rajiv Gandhi to identify illegal foreign nationals. The government had issued notification on December 6, 2013, for the update. A partial NRC draft was published on December 31, 2017. \u201cEveryone will be given an opportunity to register their claim and objections before the finalisation of the NRC. Besides, after the final document, those still aggrieved can move the Foreigners Tribunal,\u201d he said. Singh said there would be no compromise with security, sovereignty and integrity of the country. He said peace, and harmony would be maintained. The Centre has dispatched paramilitary force to assist the state government.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
