Not the one to mince his words, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor remains equally unperturbed about what people say about his films, roles and controversies that come along. Thankful to God that he\u2019s still getting to be a part of great scripts, the actor hopes to continue doing good work. In a freewheeling chat, Kapoor talks about his 46-year-long career in Bollywood, his latest film Mulk, plans to take up direction and why he doesn\u2019t regret anything in life.<\/div>\n

Are you enjoying the kind of roles you are getting to do in your second innings in films?I enjoy whatever I did in whichever period. I have no regrets about romancing, singing songs or dancing around trees. I made my name and earned money and reputation in the first 25 years of my career. Even now, God has been kind to give me good work, and the strength to imbibe these characters and portray them. I\u2019m absolutely delighted and indebted for this opportunity and hope that I can get more of these kinds of roles.<\/p>\n

How it has been working with younger crop of actors?<\/p>\n

They\u2019re hard working and good but at the same time, these are more relaxed actors. They do one or two films. In our times, we used to work in 10 films at a time.<\/p>\n

Why didn\u2019t we see you take up direction after Aa Ab Laut Chalen (1999)?<\/p>\n

I just can\u2019t do. Time bhi nahi aur bandwidth bhi nahi. It [direction] needs a lot of patience, and my passion is acting, not direction. It was a passing phase but I\u2019m no longer interested in it.<\/p>\n

Your latest film Mulk ran into various controversies around its release. Has the audience become hyper sensitive?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a commercial film where we took a lot of cinematic liberties to make it engrossing. I think we\u2019re taking the perspective of trolls on social media too seriously. That\u2019s bullshit. Our population is so huge, what percentage in India is that a reflection? Their outlook hardly matters.<\/p>\n

Do you agree that filmmakers are taking it upon themselves to make films that give out a message?<\/p>\n

Aisa toh nahi hai. But we do look for newer subjects to make films on. Films are basically a reflection of society. A subject of rape has been shown in films since the time Raj Kapoor made Prem Rog, BR Chopra made Insaaf Ka Taraaju, Rajkumar Santoshi made Damini. So, it\u2019s nothing new.<\/p>\n

Is it unfair on audience\u2019s part to expect that Bollywood should touch upon all social issues?<\/p>\n

What\u2019s wrong in that? If one can serve the society by means of cinema, they must but make sure you don\u2019t distort facts and figures.<\/p>\n

The Delhi High Court recently said that actors can\u2019t be held liable for dialogues they say onscreen. Your views?<\/p>\n
