\nThree days after he warned of staying away from the panchayat and municipal elections over Article 35A, former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said his party would boycott the Assembly and Parliamentary elections too.
\nHe was addressing a gathering on the occasion of the 36th death anniversary of his father and party founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah at the latter\u2019s mausoleum at Naseem Bagh, Hazratbal.<\/p>\n
The National Conference president and MP reiterated that the party would boycott the elections if the Centre didnn\u2019t clear its stand on Article 35A, which has been challenged in the Supreme Court. He said the ground situation in J&K, in view of the challenges to the provision, was not conducive for any election. He said besides Article 35A, Article 370 was also facing threats.<\/p>\n
He said people in the strife-torn state were faced with a number of difficulties. He stressed the need to restore peace and normalcy instead of creating more troubles.<\/p>\n
The NC leader pointed out that there was a gap between what Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced from the Red Fort and the ground situation in the state. \u201cHow can we go to people for the elections under such circumstances?\u201d questioned Farooq. \u201cWe cannot participate in the elections, be it the Assembly or Parliamentary,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
