\nCPI chief Sitaram Yechury on Thursday upped the ante on fighter aircraft Rafale deal pitching for Supreme Court-monitored SIT probe, even while the apex court is seized of the petition in the matter.<\/p>\n
This is a clear change of tack by the CPI(M) which was earlier focused on a probe by a Joint Parliamentary Committee . \u201cA Supreme Court monitored SIT probe has become necessary in view of new facts coming out on the irregularities of the government in clinching the Rafale deal, including its own submission that there is no sovereign guarantee from French government but only letter of comfort which his not legally enforceable,\u201d Yechury said.<\/p>\n
He, however, said that the party will demand for JPC probe in the matter, as well as on the impact on the exercise of demonetisation.
\nWith process for the assembly elections in five states rolled in motion, and the forthcoming 2019 General Election, the CPI wants to keep the pot boiling on the Rafale issue.<\/p>\n
Opposition parties\u2019 strategy is to put an indelible question mark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s clean public image, which played a decisive factor in upstaging Congress-led UPA from the perch in 2014.<\/p>\n
Responding to a specific question on CPI(M)\u2019s move if the Supreme Court does not opt for an SIT probe, Yechury said, \u201cWe hope it does,\u201d adding that his party would consider what has to be done after knowing the court\u2019s stand.<\/p>\n
He said it appeared to have been triggered by the RBI\u2019s stand on refusing to accede to the demand to look the other way at the SBI\u2019s attempt to waive the corporate debt to the tune of Rs one lakh crore on account of the power projects in Gujarat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
