{"id":47816,"date":"2018-11-20T11:44:32","date_gmt":"2018-11-20T11:44:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/?p=47816"},"modified":"2018-11-20T11:44:32","modified_gmt":"2018-11-20T11:44:32","slug":"maldives-cabinet-approves-to-rejoin-commonwealth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/english\/maldives-cabinet-approves-to-rejoin-commonwealth\/","title":{"rendered":"Maldives cabinet approves to rejoin Commonwealth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Maldives cabinet has approved to rejoin the Commonwealth, two years after withdrawing from the 53-nation grouping.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to rejoin the Commonwealth after taking over on Saturday and the proposal will be sent to parliament for ratification.<\/p>\n<p>The country left the Commonwealth during former President Abdulla Yameen\u2019s administration in October 2016, amid mounting pressure over corruption and deteriorating human rights.<\/p>\n<p>The new government under Solih has begun to reset several decisions and policies of the previous administration.<\/p>\n<p>The two Supreme Court judges, who were imprisoned since imposition of emergency, has been shifted to house arrest and a committee has been formed for release of political detainees.<\/p>\n<p>Solih\u2019s office has issued a 15-page document outlining its agenda for the first 100 days which includes measures to launch investigations into state funds lost through corruption, fraud and money laundering.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maldives cabinet has approved to rejoin the Commonwealth, two years after withdrawing from the 53-nation grouping.
