In Nepal, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is being observed today. A number of programmes are being organized across the country with the theme of “Gender-based violence and abuse: Not accepted to us”.<\/p>\n
President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli have stressed upon to eliminate all kinds of violence against women. In her message, President Bhandari has said that spreading education and awareness and making women economically independent is very necessary to end all forms of violence against women.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Oli in his message said the government has adopted a zero tolerance policy towards all forms of violence against women. United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nepal, Valerie Julliand said violence against women and girls remains one of the most prevalent human rights violations in the world. She said everyone must work to change what holds women and girls back from reaching the full potential and build a world free of violence and discrimination.<\/p>\n
A 16-day campaign against gender-based violence has also started in all 77 districts of Nepal from today. As part of campaign all seven Provincial Buildings will be lit up in orange, the official color of UNiTE campaign to unify all activities and bring global attention to the initiative.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
