{"id":52971,"date":"2019-01-19T10:56:40","date_gmt":"2019-01-19T10:56:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/?p=52971"},"modified":"2019-01-19T10:56:40","modified_gmt":"2019-01-19T10:56:40","slug":"canada-pm-renews-calls-for-saudi-bloggers-release","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blastingskyhawk.com\/english\/canada-pm-renews-calls-for-saudi-bloggers-release\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada PM renews calls for Saudi blogger\u2019s release"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister Justin Trudeau renewed calls for the release of Saudi blogger Raif Badawi after meeting his wife on Friday, calling the issue \u201ca priority\u201d for him and all Canadians.<\/p>\n<p>Trudeau said Canadians\u2019 view of Saudi Arabia had been defined in part by its treatment of Badawi, who was jailed for 10 years for insulting Islam and has received 50 lashes of 1,000 to which he was sentenced.<\/p>\n<p>Badawi\u2019s wife and three children have lived in Canada since being granted asylum in 2013, a year after his jailing.\u201cFreeing Raif Badawi is a priority not just for me and for his family but for all Canadians,\u201d Trudeau said.<\/p>\n<p>Trudeau said he had raised the case in conversation with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, highlighting Badawi\u2019s status as the face of Canada-Saudi relations.The two leaders met at the G20 summit in Buenos Aires in early December.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the same message that I delivered a few months earlier to the King of Saudi Arabia when we spoke\u201d by telephone, Trudeau added.Canada-Saudi relations soured last August after Ottawa demanded the \u201cimmediate release\u201d of jailed human rights campaigners, including Badawi\u2019s sister Samar.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister Justin Trudeau renewed calls for the release of Saudi blogger Raif Badawi after meeting his wife on Friday, calling the issue \u201ca priority\u201d for him and all Canadians.
