Kulbhushan Sharma, president of the National Independent Schools Alliance (NISA), today alleged that the state government was harassing private schools by enforcing unjustified and impractical regulations after the unfortunate murder of a student in Ryan International School in Gurugram.<\/p>\n
Sharma, while talking to mediapersons at the Press Club here today, said while private schools were directed to follow the new guidelines within 14 days, no law applies to government schools.<\/p>\n
He expressed grief over the tragic death of Pradhyuman in Ryan International School in Gurugram. He said while everyone was upset over the death of the child but mere mandatory installation of CCTV cameras and police verification and holding the school management and the principal liable is not going to address the concerns of safety and security of schoolchildren.<\/p>\n
He said the contribution of private schools in providing quality education couldn\u2019t be ignored. \u201cOne incident has created so much of vigilance on private schools while worst incidents have happened in government-run schools where no safety measure is taken and the quality of education too is sub-standard. Most of the government buildings are in a dilapidated condition, what to say of fire, health and hygiene safety.<\/p>\n
Sharma urged the government to provide financial assistance to schools so that they could follow all directions and the cost is not passed on to parents in the form of increased fee.<\/p>\n
He said private schools have always promoted dignity of women across the country by providing respectful employment opportunities. Most of the staff, teachers and principals in private schools are women. Now, the government wants all women to visit police station and get them verified without a family member accompanying them.<\/p>\n
Sharma alleged that several schools had applied for police verification but had to pay bribes to get work done. \u201cThere are around 2.5 lakh teachers in private schools of Haryana and the government has no capacity to complete the verification process of all of them in a week.
