Democrat Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, speaking outside a Trump-branded high-rise in Manhattan, launched an attack on President Donald Trump, calling him a \u201ccoward\u201d and the building bearing his name \u201ca shrine to greed, division and vanity\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The speech by the New York Senator on Sunday, part of what her campaign billed as the official kick-off of her 2020 presidential bid that has unofficially been underway since January, appeared to be a calculated effort to elevate a candidate who has so far struggled for traction and attention in a crowded Democratic field, The New York Times said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a 30-minute speech, Gillibrand said: \u201cIt is not often that I agree with Richard Nixon, but he was right to say that the American people have a right to know whether their president is a crook.\u201d Standing not far from the Trump International Hotel & Tower, Gillibrand mocked the President\u2019s penchant for slapping his name on buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe does this because he wants you to believe he\u2019s strong He is not. Our President is a coward.\u201d The crowd on a closed-off Central Park West was small compared with those drawn by her rivals over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Senator with Indian and Jamaican descent, for her part, was campaigning in Houston, the home state of former Representative Beto O\u2019Rourke, at a rally that drew several thousand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
