North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called a full meeting on Wednesday of a top committee of the ruling Workers\u2019 Party to address what he described as the \u201cprevailing tense situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The gathering of the Central \nCommittee comes after Kim\u2019s Hanoi summit with US President Donald Trump \nbroke up without agreement in February, and as South Korean President \nMoon Jae-in flies to Washington for talks with the US leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last\n April Kim declared that the ruling party\u2019s \u201cnew strategic line\u201d would \nbe \u201csocialist economic construction\u201d and its quest for nuclear \ndevelopment was complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kim made \u201ca deep analysis of the \nmatters pending urgent solution in the party and state\u201d, KCNA said, \nadding that at Wednesday\u2019s meeting the central committee will \u201cdecide \nthe new orientation and ways of struggle in line with the need of the \nprevailing revolutionary situation\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It comes ahead of the \nopening of the country\u2019s rubber stamp legislature on Thursday.Trump and \nKim held their first landmark summit in Singapore last June, where the \nNorth Korean leader signed a vaguely-worded deal on the \n\u201cdenuclearisation of the Korean peninsula\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the failure by \nthe pair to reach agreement at their second summit in Hanoi on walking \nback Pyongyang\u2019s nuclear programme in exchange for relaxation of the \nmeasures against it has raised questions over the future of the wider \nprocess.
