In Sri Lanka, former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa has said\u00a0 all necessary steps have been successfully concluded to renounce his US citizenship.Gotabaya, who is brother of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa made the statement after his return to Colombo Friday morning from his visit to US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is tipped to be the Presidential \ncandidate from opposition led by former President and Sri Lankan laws \nmandate him to renounce dual citizenship for his eligibility to \nPresident post.Gotabaya was also in news recently over claims that he \nhas been served notice by a US court in a case filed by a civil society \norganization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He told the media today that these cases were filed\n targeting the upcoming elections and certain Sri Lankans supporting \nLTTE cause have supported these cases.Gotabaya further said that \nlevelling such allegations against him has downgraded all his service \nrendered as the former Defence Secretary and the entire country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\n was given a rousing welcome by his supporters on his arrival at the \nairport. In an interview to a local daily earlier, he insisted that the \ncases would only motivate him and his supporters to push for political \nchange in Sri Lanka.
