The controversy over the purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets from France has taken a new turn following an article published in French daily claimed that Anil Ambani\u2019s France-based company (not the same dealing with Dassault Aviation) was given a tax waiver of 143.7 million euros .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\n waiver came in October 2015, six months after PM Narendra Modi \nannounced the Rafale deal in April 2015, Le Monde reported. Anil \nAmbani\u2019s Reliance Defence is an offset partner of Dassault in the Rafale\n deal. Reacting to the report by the French daily, Reliance \nCommunications said the tax demands were completely unsustainable and \nillegal, and denied any \u201cfavouritism or gain from settlement\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\n Ministry of Defence said the period of tax concession did not relate \n\u201ceven remotely\u201d to the Rafale deal.Anil Ambani\u2019s France-based \u2018Reliance\n Flag Atlantic France\u2019 deals in under-sea cabling which carries \ntelephone and internet traffic. French tax authorities, after a probe, \nfound the company liable to pay 60 million euros in taxes for the period\n between 2007 and 2010. Reliance offered to pay 7.6 million euros as a \nsettlement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFrance has cancelled a tax recovery of a total \namount of 143.7 million euros, yet claimed for years, in favour of a \nFrench company belonging to Reliance Communications,\u201d it reported. The \nFrench daily cited an auditor\u2019s report of January 30, 2015, saying \nReliance Flag Atlantic France is subject to two tax adjustments.
