The United States and economic partners held \u201cproductive\u201d talks this week on the taxation of major tech giants, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Countries like France, Spain and Austria have \nannounced plans to tax tech companies\u2019 revenues outright because the \nInternet-based companies do not declare profits on a by-country basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\n United States is pushing for an overarching agreement through the \nOrganization for Economic Cooperation and Development, a forum for \nadvanced economies.Mnuchin told reporters Saturday there had been \u201clots \nof productive discussions\u201d on the subject in Washington where finance \nministers were gathered for spring meetings of the World Bank and the \nInternational Monetary Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said it is \u201ca priority from our \nstandpoint to find an OECD solution.\u201d \u201cWe will be working together to do\n that and a commitment from the UK and France will go with an \ninternational solution,\u201d Mnuchin said.\u201cThere is a shared desire that was\n clearly expressed that now we have to move forward within the OECD,\u201d he\n said.\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
