Many tense-up when prime ministers in some countries announce an address to the nation \u2013 there is similar anxiety in the United Kingdom when Prime Minister Theresa May goes on her favourite walking break in north Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\n reason is that May famously decided on calling the 2017 mid-term \nelection while on a five-day walking holiday in the sylvan Snowdonia \nwith her husband, Philip May. Soon after returning the Easter break in \nApril 2017, she stood outside Downing Street and announced the \nmid-election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The election outcome wasn\u2019t exactly what she hoped \nfor: she ended up losing the Conservative party\u2019s majority won in 2015 \nunder David Cameron, forcing her to seek support of the 10-member \nDemocratic Unionist party to form the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last week, \nfollowing months of bruising headlines and worse over Brexit, May again \nwent up the Welsh pastures with her husband for the week-long Easter \nbreak, raising temperatures again at least one tabloid claimed \nWestminster was in \u2018panic\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Such was the anxiety that the Downing\n Street spokesman was specifically asked if she is considering another \nelection during the holiday. The answer was a brief \u2018No\u2019, but that \nhasn\u2019t stopped tongues wagging in the Westminster bubble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
May \nsaid in 2017 that she had thought \u201clong and hard\u201d about holding the \nmid-term election while relaxing in Snowdonia, where she says she and \nPhilip \u201clove going there because the scenery\u2019s great, the hospitality is\n great, we get a great welcome there and it\u2019s a wonderful part of the \ncountry\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
