Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on Saturday said \u201creputation\u201d is the only thing a judge has and if it will be attacked on baseless allegations of sexual harassment, no \u201csane person\u201d will come forward to take up judgeship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CJI said after being a judge for around two \ndecades, he had a bank balance of Rs 6.80 lakh. \u201cThere is Rs 21.80 lakh \nin my bank account of which Rs 15 lakh has been given by my daughter for\n the repair of my house at Guwahati. I have around Rs 40 lakh in \nprovident fund. These are my total assets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen I became a \njudge, I had much more,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cNobody can catch me on money.\n People have to find something and they have found this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf \njudges have to work under these conditions, then I have always said that\n good people will not come forward to take up the job. My peon has got \nmore money than me,\u201d he said. The CJI alleged that the woman has a \ncriminal record and two FIRs were lodged against her. When she was \nemployed with the apex court, an FIR was pending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHow can she \nbecome an SC staffer when an FIR was pending against her?\u201d the CJI said,\n adding that two criminal cases were also pending against her husband. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A\n third FIR was registered following which she was arrested, he said, \nadding that after getting bail, she threatened the complainant of the \nthird case. \u201cI felt this should be told from the highest seat of \njudiciary,\u201d he said,\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
