Announcing the end of the waivers, White House Press \nSecretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said \u201cTrump has decided not to reissue \nSignificant Reduction Exceptions when they expire in early May. This \ndecision is intended to bring Iran\u2019s oil exports to zero, denying the \nregime its principal source of revenue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When the US imposed \nsanctions on Iran in November, India and seven other countries were \ngiven exemptions that will expire May 2.US Secretary of State Mike \nPompeo later told reporters that countries that do not abide by the \nembargo will face sanctions. They will encounter sanctions that will \naffect their international financial transactions, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe \nstand by our allies and partners as they transition away from Iranian \ncrude to other alternatives,\u201d Pompeo added.The US was increasing oil \nproduction and was working with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab \nEmirates to ensure that there will be no disruptions in oil supplies as a\n result of the ending of the waivers, according to Pompeo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In May\n 2018, Trump withdrew from the 2105 international agreement with Iran on\n de-nuclearisation that had ended sanctions on that country.
