Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has assured his nation that he would take steps to curtail terrorism and bring back normalcy swiftly even as tensions remain with the possibility of more attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At \nleast 18 people were arrested overnight for suspicion in involvement in \nSunday attacks which has killed 321 people so far. President Sirisena \nsaid he will make immediate changes in the high security positions as \nthere was negligence in carrying out responsibilities. He said although \nthere was an intelligence report about these attacks, he was not \ninformed about them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing the nation Tuesday night, \nPresident Sirisena disclosed that since 2017, there were intelligence \ninformation about emergence of terrorist groups and the fact that some \nof them receiving training in foreign countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, Prime \nMinister Ranil Wickremsinghe said some people are on the run and \nsecurity forces are trying to prevent further attacks. He said that it \nwill take a bit of time for normalcy to return to the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wickremsinghe\n accepted that India has shared specific intelligence about the attacks \nand there is strong cooperation between the two countries on terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\n Prime minister said that there are foreign links behind the attacks and\n investigations are on to probe ISIS links. His comments came as ISIS \ntook responsibility for the attacks saying it is in response to \nshootings at Christchurch mosque in New Zealand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, a \ngovernment minister stated that Sunday\u2019s attacks were carried out in \nresponse to Christchurch incident.
