Union minister Suresh Prabhu has said that the country is working on a district-based developmental model to achieve aggregate growth. He was addressing a session in Kolkata on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Union minister for \ncommerce, industry and civil aviation said that six districts have been \nselected in different parts of the country for this model. He said if \nthe national growth was at six per cent and those of the districts was \nfour per cent, the aggregate growth would be 10 per cent. He also called\n for the restoration of the trade balance with China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAll put \ntogether, this will result in rise in India\u2019s GDP and to complement \nthat, the private sector should bring in investments,\u201d Prabhu said. The \nindustry has to bring in investment as service-led growth would not be \nsustainable, he said adding that the government is ready with a new \nindustrial policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIndia needs to integrate with the global \neconomy and there is no reason why India\u2019s exports volume should not \ntouch $ 540 billion. This will only happen only by integrating with the \nglobal trade,\u201d Prabhu said. The minister said the two premier institutes\n the IIM Ahmedabad and the NCAER have been approached to fix the \nbaseline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe first phase of the project has been completed. The\n second phase will include industry, services and agriculture,\u201d he \nadded. He also called for the restoration of the trade balance with \nChina.
