The decision has got polarized opinion since the course \nproduces about 1.2 lakh nurses a year and this decision could lead to a \nshortage of nurses, especially in the least developed states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr.\n Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Institute of Nursing (AIN), Rajpura, \nNear Chandigarh said that we have 40 seats in GNM and 20 seats in ANM \nCourse. This year the number of applicants for GNM Course has increased 4\n times because of the chances of closure of GNM Course for 12th Arts \nstudents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The GNM course is a three-year diploma which is open \nfor non science backgrounds while B.Sc nursing is a four-year course \nwith eligibility as 12th pass in science. Currently, on the Indian \nNursing Council (INC) website, in India there are 2,902 GNM nursing \nschools. According to a recent notification of March 14 by the Council, \nthe last admission for GNM courses will be done in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kataria \nfurther added that if this happens then most of the 12th pass students \nof Non science background would not be able pursue GNM.
