Pakistan\u2019s relationship with India remains the \u201conly problem\u201d for peace and stability in the region, Prime Minister Imran Khan has said and expressed hope of establishing a \u201ccivilised relationship\u201d with New Delhi after the Lok Sabha elections are over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unless there is peace \nand stability in region, economic prosperity is difficult for Pakistan, \nand that is what right now the Pakistan government is working on, Khan \nwho is in China to take part in the 2nd Belt and Road Forum, said while\n addressing the China International Cultural Communication Centre here \non Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Khan said Pakistan hopes that the political solution \nin Afghanistan will succeed and the war-ravaged country attains \nstability.\u201cWhatever happens in Afghanistan affects the Pakistan\u2019s \nbordering areas. So, we are working for a peaceful region. We have \ndecent relationship with Iran and we are trying to strengthen them,\u201d he \nwas quoted as saying by state-run APP news agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe only \nproblem right now is our relationship with India. But we are hoping that\n after the Indian elections, we will again hope to have a civilised \nrelationship with India too,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since his arrival here on \nApril 25 to take part in the BRF meeting which concluded on Saturday, \nthe Cricketer-turned-politician refrained from speaking on \nIndia-Pakistan ties which in the last two months have experienced severe\n strains following the February 14 Pulwama terror attack carried out by \nthe Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e Mohammed which killed 40 CRPF \npersonnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His emphasis during the visit appears to be firming up\n more projects for the USD 60 billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor ,\n the flagship project of China\u2019s ambitious trillion-dollar Belt and Road\n Initiative .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The BRI is Chinese President Xi Jinping\u2019s signature\n global infrastructure policy. First announced in 2013, the project \npromises to build ports, roads and railways to revive the ancient Silk \nRoad and create new trade corridors linking China to Asia, Africa and \nEurope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also underscored the importance of greater \nconnectivity among the BRI participating countries and proposed four \nspecific areas for particular focus, including digital connectivity, \nmobility of labour, cultural connectivity and sharing best practices in \nknowledge and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To advance these proposals, among other\n things, Khan also suggested setting up of BRI Tourism Corridor to \nimprove labour skills and mobility and creating multi-lingual digital \nplatforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also mooted cooperation among the BRI countries for\n poverty alleviation and campaign against corruption. In his speech at \nthe cultural centre, Khan said the BRI had come as a blessing for \nPakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBelt and Road Initiative has given us an opportunity \nto catch up with other nations. CPEC has provided an opportunity for \nPakistan to attract investment not just from China, which is the fastest\n growing economy in the world now. So obviously, China is a main home \nfrom where we hope to invite investors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Khan also met \nManaging Director of International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde on \nthe sidelines of the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing and reportedly \ndiscussed the bailout package.Pakistan is currently undergoing a severe \nbalance of payment crisis, despite large infusion of investments from \nChina, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
