A court here on Saturday summoned Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on June 7 on a complaint over his remarks that an unnamed RSS leader had compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to \u201ca scorpion sitting on a Shivling\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additional\n Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal was hearing a criminal \ndefamation complaint filed against Tharoor by Delhi BJP leader Rajeev \nBabbar, who has said his religious sentiments were hurt by the Congress \nleader\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tharoor had claimed in October last year that\n an unnamed RSS leader had compared Prime Minister Modi to \u201ca scorpion \nsitting on a Shivlinga\u201d. He had termed it as an extraordinarily striking\n metaphor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The complaint says, \u201cI am a devotee of Lord Shiva. \nHowever, the accused completely disregarded the sentiments of crores of \nShiva devotees, (and) made the statement which hurt the sentiments of \nall Lord Shiva devotees, both in India and outside the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe\n complainant\u2019s religious sentiments were hurt and the accused \ndeliberately did this malicious act, intending to outrage the religious \nfeelings of Lord Shiva devotees by insulting their religious belief,\u201d it\n adds.The complaint also describes Tharoor\u2019s statement as an \n\u201cintolerable abuse\u201d and \u201cabsolute vilification\u201d of the faith of millions\n of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
