India wrapped up their campaign at the Asian Wrestling Championships on a resounding note with 16 medals after Greco-Roman grapplers added a silver and a bronze on the concluding day here on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Harpreet\n Singh settled for a silver in 82kg while Gyanender won a bronze in 60kg\n on the final day of competition.India\u2019s overall tally of 16 medals \nincluded eight one gold, three silver and four bronze won by men\u2019s \nfreestyle wrestlers, four bronze by women and three silver and a bronze \nby Greco-Roman wrestlers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With this performance, India\u2019s \nGreco-Roman wrestlers have bettered their tally of two bronze from the \nlast edition and is the country\u2019s best ever showing in this discipline \nso far at the Asian Championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After a strong show en-route \nto the final, Harpreet Singh had to settle for the second-best position \nto get his first silver medal after three consecutive bronze from this \nprestigious tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the final, Iran\u2019s Saeid Morad Abdvali,\n a former world champion and Olympic medallist, did not allow the Indian\n to settle as he went on to register a comfortable 8-0 win by Technical \nSuperiority over Harpreet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Harpreet had earlier put up an \nimpressive performance to storm into the gold medal round, having \nthrashed Haitao Qian of China 10-1 in the semifinals after handing a 5-1\n defeat to Burgo Beishaliev of Kyrgyzstan in his last-eight stage bout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\n gave my all but it wasn\u2019t my day, especially an opponent who is a \nformer world champion and Olympic medallist, was too strong. I am still \nhappy to have bettered the colour of my medal from last year and \nhopefully will be able to bring more laurels for India in future,\u201d said \nHarpreet after the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
