In its submission to the ombudsman\u2019s query on whether there is any conflict of interest in Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, who are the Board of Control for Cricket in India\u2019s Cricket Advisory Committee members, having an association with IPL teams, the board has replied it is excusable provided the duo make a full disclosure regarding their roles with the respective franchises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The BCCI informed Justice \nDK Jain that the complaints against Tendulkar, who is associated with \nMumbai Indians, and Laxman, who is part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad \nset-up, fall under the \u2018tractable\u2019 category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As per the BCCI\u2019s \nrules on conflict of interest, \u201ctractable conflicts are those that are \nresolvable or permissible or excusable through recusal of the individual\n concerned and\/or with full disclosure of the interest involved.\u201d A few \nweeks ago, a similar case against the third CAC member, Sourav Ganguly, \nwho is associated with IPL team Delhi Capitals, was also deemed \ntractable by the BCCI. Ganguly is also president of the Cricket \nAssociation of Bengal .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Indian Express understands that \nformer cricketers Tendulkar, Laxman and Ganguly will be allowed to hold \ntheir respective positions in IPL if they make the required \ndisclosures. Tendulkar and Laxman have informed the ombudsman that, if \nneeded, they are willing to be present for a personal hearing with their\n lawyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tendulkar on Sunday refuted the charges leveled against\n him, saying that he has neither received any compensation nor does he \nhold any decision-making power in the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians. \nLaxman, in his reply, stated that the COA has not explained the CAC\u2019s \nrole till date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOn December 7, 2018, we had written to the \nCommittee of Administrators requesting them to clarify the scope of our \nrole and responsibilities. To this date, there has been no reply. Since \nno tenure had been mentioned in the letter of intent issued in 2015, it \nwas only reasonable to expect some communication on whether the CAC was \nstill in existence. Unfortunately that hasn\u2019t been forthcoming,\u201d Laxman \nwrote in his affidavit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The opportunity to be involved \nmeaningfully in India\u2019s climb towards becoming a cricketing superpower \npost retirement was privilege enough for me to turn down the offer of \nremuneration of being a part of CAC.
