The United States of America has called for the different parties involved in the designation of Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist to move forward together on the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alice Wells, the\n principal deputy assistant secretary of state for South and Central \nAsian Affairs, while talking to journalists at the US Embassy in \nIslamabad, said: \u201cWe would encourage the parties to move forward with \nthe designation. It reaffirms the centrality of UN and UN role in \ndesignating terrorists.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She noted: \u201cWe believe the designation \nprocess should be technical in nature, even assessment of evidence and \ncountries moving forward to ensure that UN process works and works well \nand the international community is able to take corrective action \nagainst any terrorist, whoever they are, wherever they are located.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chinese\n foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang, speaking at a media briefing in\n Beijing, said: \u201cWe support the listing issue being settled within the \n1267 committee through dialogue and consultation and I believe this is \nthe consensus of most members. Second, the relevant consultations are \ngoing on within the committee and have achieved some progress. Third, I \nbelieve, with the joint efforts of all parties, this issue can be \nproperly resolved.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
India has been seeking Azhar\u2019s listing since \n2016, but the latest push came after the February 14 Pulwama attack \nwhich was claimed by the JeM. The Indian resolution was backed by UNSC \npermanent members the US, the United Kingdom and France.
