Reiterating that India is an important market for Apple, CEO Tim Cook said the current iPhone manufacturing will see maximum growth in days to come amid the renewed push to open its branded retail stores in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\n an earnings call with analysts after declaring its Q2 results late \nTuesday, Cook said the company has made some \u201cadjustments in India and \nhave seen preliminary some better results there\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have \nstarted manufacturing there which is very important to be able to serve \nthe market in a reasonable way. And we\u2019re growing that capability \nthere,\u201d said the Apple CEO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Giving an impetus to its India \nmanufacturing plans, Apple has started the assembling of iPhone 7 at its\n supplier Wistron\u2019s facility in Bengaluru. Taiwanese industrial major \nWistron already assembles iPhone 6S in the country.Cook also emphasised \non the company\u2019s plans to open its branded stores in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe \nwould like to place retail stores there. And we\u2019re working with the \ngovernment to seek approval to do that. And so, we plan on going in \nthere with sort of all of our might,\u201d said Cook.Apple is slowly but \nsteadily strategising its plans to make deeper inroads in a country \nwhere over 450 million people use smartphones, mostly Android and from \nChina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve opened a developer, accelerator there, which we\u2019re \nvery happy with some of the things coming out of there. It\u2019s a long-term\n play. It\u2019s not something that\u2019s going to be on overnight huge business.\n But I think the growth potential is phenomenal,\u201d Cook told the analysts\n as Apple posted a revenue of $58 billion for its second quarter of \n2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Tarun Pathak, Associate Director, Counterpoint\n Research, this is like a fresh start for Apple in India once it \nlocalizes assembly operations.Last one year has been tough for Apple in \nIndia, with its market share tumbling to less than 1 per cent in tht \nquarter of 2019.\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
