The Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti , which was spearheading the agitation for reservation benefits for the Patels in Gujarat, has decided to resume the stir but this time for different goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur agitation will \ncontinue till PAAS co-convener Alpesh Kathiriya, currently under \ndetention on sedition charges, is released, all criminal cases against \nthe Patidar youths are withdrawn and officials responsible for the \nkillings of 14 youths in the 2015 police firing are punished,\u201d PAAS \nconvener Hardik Patel said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The decision was today taken at a \nmeeting of the PAAS which was attended by Hardik, now the Congress \nleader, his one-time aide Dinesh Bhambhaniya and others. However, most \nof the former PAAS leaders, who since have joined the ruling BJP, \nskipped the meeting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, Hardik\u2019s announcement after the \nmeeting that the quota stir was over sparked off a controversy with \nseveral Patidar leaders, including Varun Patel, who joined the BJP in \n2017, and Lalji Patel, convener of the \u201cSardar Patel Group\u201d which was \nsupporting the PAAS in the quota stir, questioning his authority to take\n a decision on behalf of the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the \ncontroversy, Hardik and other PAAS leaders tweeted that the statement \nhad been misinterpreted and the agitation would be resumed to get Alpesh\n released, cases against Patidar youths withdrawn and guilty officials \npunished.\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
